Being a celebrity implicates comparisons with your contemporaries. Bollywood’s reigning queen Aishwarya Rai is no different. At one point of time she was ranked as the most desirable of actresses in the film industry.
Aishwarya was the reigning queen and was considered an enchantress both owing to her impeccable looks and her abundant on-screen talent. However, lately, Katrina Kaif is being written about more than Aishwarya which makes her the latter’s strong competitor.
Being young and exuberant, Katrina is hogging all the limelight- be it for her rom-com flicks or her exposed midriff in raunchy song like ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’. Aishwarya has had some releases in 2010 too but they did not work at the box office. Even the aesthetic ‘Guzaarish’ and the much hyped ‘Action Replayy’ did not tempt the movie buffs towards the theatres. Even though, ‘Endhiran’ or ‘Robot’ did explosive business, its success has been credited to the presence of the Demi-God Rajinikanth. And coming to Katrina, her most films have been a hit even if they have a pathetic storyline (for example, ‘Welcome’). Her presence alone is enough to pull in male diehards in huge number. Katrina’s recent release ‘Tees Maar Khan’ opened big doing over Rs 40 crore of business in its opening weekend. Katrina, though, did a commendable job in ‘Rajneeti’, the viewers’ obsession with the ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ number was a tad too much. Katrina has lost weight and cast off her clothes and inhibitions for this zesty song.
Title track of ‘Dhoom 2′ and ‘Krazy kiya re’ number brought a hot and sexy Aishwarya Rai to the fore.. Her ‘Krazy kiya re’ number was a rage amongst the youngsters and her songs like ‘Ishq Kamina’ and ‘Kajra Re’ are still remembered with intense fervour. Hence, one must say that even though it is Katrina who is making the nation drool and swoon in this wintry season, she is still a tad behind Aishwarya who has donned the item avatar on more than one occasion.
If sources are to be believed, Abhishek and Katrina have a line up of three new films in the near future. Guess they have moved on from Salman- Aishwarya episode for better.. Katrina has already signed ‘Dostana 2′ (Director: Tarun Mansukhani) which stars Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham. Meanwhile, famous director Rajkumar Santoshi (‘Andaaz Apna Apna’ and ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’) has written a script and has roped in Katrina and Abhishek as lead protagonists. It would be a comic romance or a rom-com flick. The buzz is that Katrina and Bacchan junior are also slated to work together in Vipul Shah’s next. Now, what remains to be seen if Katrina can stir a genuine chemistry with Abhishek.
The chances of Katrina and Abhishek giving the movie devotees a hit are quite high. Even with all the fervour of Aishwarya, almost all the Aishwarya- Abhishek starrer films have proved to be washouts at the box- office. Be it their latest release in 2010 ‘Raavan’ or their earlier attempts when they were not a real life couple. Only ‘Guru’ is an exception. We sincerely desire that the new pair will be able to pull wider number of enthusiasts given the popularity of Katrina and the influence of Abhishek.
